The Tourism Coalition of South Dakota (TCSD) is hitting the road for National Travel and Tourism Week, May 4-10, with a bold message for communities across the state: Tourism Isn’t Just Fun – It’s Fuel for the Economy!
The coalition will travel from Yankton to the Black Hills and beyond, visiting more than a dozen communities to highlight how the tourism industry impacts every South Dakota county – from job creation and small business success to tax relief and infrastructure funding.
“We are dedicated to showing how deeply tourism is woven into the fabric of our state,” said TCSD Executive Director Carmen Schramm. “It’s not just fun for visitors – tourism is vital for our communities.”
In 2024, South Dakota welcomed 14.9 million visitors, their spending totaled $5.09 billion across the state. Tourism dollars are fueling main streets across South Dakota.
The tour will share localized data showing how tourism dollars support county budgets, employment, and tax savings for residents. It will also unveil findings from a Resident Sentiment Survey, showing broad public support for tourism and its role in improving quality of life.
